Position title: IT Data Base Administrator

The Application Database Administrator (DBA) is a member of Enterprise Data Services (EDS) in the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park. The position has responsibility for providing comprehensive database optimization and administration for enterprise level, cross-campus services.

 

The position is responsible for

 

* Configuring and maintaining MSSQL (cluster on Prem, Azure, AWS) , Postgres databases (AWS RDS) ,Oracle (AWS RDS) and Redshift data warehouse platform, including monitoring of database health, database performance, availability, deployment, backup and recovery , security (audit), Optimization and SQL tuning.

* Analyzing and guiding customers with SQL , T-SQL , PostgreSQL Queries for the Application requirements which includes writing of SQL , T-SQl and PostgreSQL

* Providing 24×7 support for critical production systems. Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.

* Working knowledge of AWS and Azure architecture, modern data stack and tools for the data lifecycle.

* Implementing scripting, and automation tasks (SSIS)

 

This position is considered an essential position and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of University services. This position also requires being on call during certain periods.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

 

Experience: 

* 4 plus years of Database Administration experience primarily with MSSQL , AWS RDS Oracle and AWS RDS Postgres Databases.

* 1 year experience of Redshift data warehouse platform.

* 7 plus years configuring and maintaining MSSQL databases (including MSSQL cluster), Oracle , Postgres databases including monitoring of database health, database performance, availability, deployment, backup and recovery, security (audit), Optimization, SSIS and SQL/ T-SQL tuning.

* Experience in Azure and AWS database architecture, Warehouse data stack and tools for the data lifecycle.

* Experience in writing SQL queries , T-SQL scripts and PostgreSQL.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Working knowledge of AWS and Azure architecture, warehouse data stack and tools for the data lifecycle.

* Skilled in SQL, T-SQL/PostgreSQL query tuning and Database Tuning, Analyze database performance reports and Recommend best practice for SQL code deployment in production environments for database optimization.

* Ability to work independently and concurrently on multiple projects, adjust rapidly to occasional significant changes in priorities, and respond efficiently and effectively 24 by 7 for critical production systems.

 

Preferences:

* Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate.

* SQL Server certifications.

* Postgres Certification.

* Oracle Certification.

Salary range: $115,000-$130,000

**This position does not provide sponsorship for Visas.

 

Physical demands: 

* Sedentary work. Employee will need to be able to sit for long periods of time to work on a computer, as well as travel occasionally to meet with clients and customers on and off campus.

* Position also requires being on call to provide some outside of business hours support.
