Seattle Information Technology (IT) is seeking applicants for the Associate Director of Infrastructure Services within the Security & Infrastructure (S&I) Division. S&I delivers resilient, secure, infrastructure services in support of City missions and business, and provides all cybersecurity capabilities for the IT environment. This newly created role reports directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (who is also the Director of S&I) and is a member of the division's senior leadership team.
Seattle Information Technology (IT) is trusted partner that provides secure, reliable, and compliant technologies enabling the City of Seattle to deliver equitable and adaptable services who live, work, and play in Seattle. Our existence as a department is to support our City partners. Seattle IT manages the City’s technology infrastructure, applications, services, programs, and projects. Job Responsibilities
This role focuses on tactical and strategic leadership for teams that provide a wide range of enterprise-wide infrastructure services, including networking, server platforms, cloud, storage, data protection, middleware and integrations, and databases. This role is committed to strong, secure, operational service delivery as well as continual improvement in how we provide infrastructure technologies for the City.
A successful candidate will be an experienced enterprise technology leader with depth in multiple infrastructure areas, and enough breadth to be confident leading in adjacent technologies. They will also have the following qualities: strong leadership skills, the ability to encourage and empower staff, excellent planning and execution skills, knowledge of current and emerging technologies and practices, skill in building consensus and making difficult decisions, and strong business and fiscal management sense.
Key Accountabilities:
- Drive maturity, efficiency, innovation, and ongoing improvement in large-scale infrastructure operations and service delivery, both on-premises and cloud-based
- Ensure alignment of infrastructure strategies to the overall priorities of the division and department, and partner with leaders and strategists to incorporate *emerging technologies into the infrastructure portfolio and roadmaps
- Build successful collaborations with IT peers and business partners through a deep understanding of business needs and priorities
- Elevate our cybersecurity posture by driving the development and execution of effective vulnerability remediation processes, as well as infrastructure-related security initiatives
- Cultivate and continually develop a cohesive, collaborative, and diverse Infrastructure Services leadership team
- Collaborate with peers and executives to drive application, information, and infrastructure resilience in our technology environment
- Provide active oversight of infrastructure finances, including both capital and operating budgets, licensing, labor, etc., to ensure consistency with the overall financial objectives of Seattle IT
- Serve on steering, policymaking, and governance committees to provide the Seattle IT and S&I perspective in different venues
- Provide oversight for vendor and partner relationship management within Infrastructure Services
- Support and implement inclusive anti-racist practices as part of the Race and Social Justice Program

- Supporting all required audit activity, and ensuring the relevant City infrastructure adheres to and adapts to all compliance requirements
Qualifications
A successful candidate will have the following:
- Eight years of increasingly responsible experience in information technology with direct responsibility for enterprise infrastructure technology
- Five years of experience managing successful operational teams from a variety of technical disciplines including one or more of networking, systems, cloud, database, middleware, integrations, enterprise storage or backup, or other core infrastructure areas
- Experience deploying and running security technologies and/or controls within an enterprise environment
- Experience with IT Service Management and ITIL standards and methodologies
- Experience with managing budgets, strategic plans, resourcing plans, and proposals
- Demonstrated experience in fostering an inclusive environment
Your effectiveness in this role will depend on your ability to and have:
- Broad knowledge of information technology including infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development, data analysis, and cloud computing
- Ability to operate independently and use professional judgment to solve highly complex problems and see opportunities
- Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities
- Excellent written and persuasive communication skills, to enable effective communications with technical teams, executives, and clients
- High degree of emotional intelligence and skills to guide and facilitate conflict resolution
- Excellent social intelligence skills, capable of building trust and maintaining relationships with customers, vendors, partners, business managers, and executives across the organization
- Bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, related field, or equivalent work experience
You will be prepared for this role if you have deep technical knowledge in some (not necessarily all) of the following technologies:
- Windows, Linux, and/or UNIX systems and related management tools
- Hyperconverged infrastructure and virtualization, including VMware
- AWS and/or Azure cloud services
- Enterprise networking, firewalls, load balancers, and related technologies
- SQL Server, Oracle, and other database technologies
- Middleware solutions, and integration platforms and approaches
- Enterprise storage and backup solutions
- Automation and orchestration solutions
